A WHOPPING 12 000 public transport vehicles plying routes in and out of the Central Business District of Harare are unregistered with only a paltry 3 000 operating legally, police have said.

This comes as authorities are grappling with illegal pirate taxis and kombis that have become a menace in the capital city amid concerns that they were behind the congestion the local authority is struggling to tame.

Speaking during a passenger transport operators’ engagement in Harare Province yesterday, police chief staff officer operations Bazibi Dube said they were targeting to transform all illegal transport operators into legal public vehicles.
