THE Harare City Council has approved the development of a new master plan, setting aside US$2.89 million for the project.
This comes after all local authorities were given an ultimatum to have competent planning functions to the satisfaction of the ministry of Local Government by June 30 this year.
According to last week’s minutes of the city’s joint finance and development and works and town planning committee meeting, the project would be funded from devolution funds after the local authority revealed it did not have financial resources from its current budget.
“Council approves the submission to the ministry of Local Government and Public Works of an application for utilisation of the devolution funds as well supplementary budget amounting to US$2 890 000 in the 2024 financial year for the preparation of the Harare master plan.
