THE Grain Marketing Board’s (GMB) grain stocks, as at April 25, for maize, small grains and wheat were at 308 139 metric tonnes, including wheat that is available for sale to millers of 122 072 metric tonnes.

The available stocks at the GMB showed that the country had a shortfall of 1 108 metric tonnes, and this would be supplemented by grain imports.

This was confirmed by Information minister Jenfan Muswere yesterday at a post-Cabinet press briefing in Harare.

“The food security balance sheet comprises; stock held by individuals, private sector and the government; the meagre El-Nino induced drought harvest gleanings; imports by the government and the private sector; and winter cereal production.
