THE country’s flagship golf tournament, the FBC Zimbabwe Open Championship gets underway at Royal Harare Golf Club today with a 144-strong field taking part.

At least 30 local golfers are set to be part of the field for the US$200 000 event that will be contested over 72 holes from today until Sunday with the duo of Scott and Kieran Vincent presenting Zimbabwe’s best hope for a first local winner since Mark McNulty in 2000.

The Vincent brothers, who are Zimbabwe’s only representatives on the lucrative LIV Golf tour, jetted into the country on Monday and wound up preparations for the Zim Open by taking part in the tournament pro-am yesterday. But the real business gets underway today with tournament director Mike Mahachi indicating that they are anticipating another top drawer event in keeping with the tournament’s status as one of the Sunshine Tour’s leading events
