GOVERNMENT is calling on commercial farmers whose farms were compulsorily acquired despite being protected under the Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreements (BIPPAs) to apply for compensation.
According to Finance minister Mthuli Ncube, US$20 million has been set aside to compensate the farmers.
This comes as the government is continuing to push for a settlement with white former commercial farmers who lost their land during the country’s agrarian reform programme of the early 2000s.
“The government is inviting qualifying BIPPAprotected farmers, who choose the financial compensation options, to submit applications for compensation,” Ncube said in a statement yesterday.
