The government has called on industry, business, and the public to use electricity sparingly as winter commences. This comes as the country’s power supply has been improving steadily in the last few weeks with Hwange Power Station generating 989 megawatts, Kariba 625 megawatts while independent power producers were generating 45 megawatts and the total was 1 659 megawatts as of May 2.
However, electricity demand is expected to increase significantly due to increased usage by domestic, commercial, and winter wheat farmers. Energy Ministry permanent secretary Gloria Magombo yesterday said it was important for stakeholders to understand the need to conserve power.
