Taxation changes hit National Foods

NATIONAL Foods Holdings is grappling with the effects of recent tax reforms, citing concerns about their impact on competitiveness against informal sector players and imported goods.

During the first quarter, the government changed the Value Added Tax (VAT) status of many basic commodities from zero-rated to exempt.

This means businesses can no longer claim back the VAT paid on input costs, increasing production expenses by 3 percent, according to the company.
