Drought sapped farmers get help

AUTHORITIES will supplement livestock feed throughout the country to stop farmers from engaging in panic selling of their animals due to the El Nino drought.

Agriculture minister Anxious Masuka yesterday said that this was being done as the drought had affected feed, water availability and herbage quality — resulting in the panic selling of livestock.

“The livestock response strategy is part of the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the drought and enhancing resilience in communities to ensure sustainable livestock production…”
