THE government is expecting a bumper irrigated winter wheat harvest which will help to improve the country’s food security.

Speaking yesterday, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Obert Jiri, said the country was expecting more than 600 000 tonnes of wheat this year, compared to last year’s 468 000 tonnes.

This comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a state of national disaster as a result of the El Niño-induced drought.
