‘Health insurance sector struggles in Zimbabwe persist’

ZIMBABWE’S health insurance sector is facing challenges, with low uptake despite its potential benefits, especially for those in the informal economy.

Unlike medical aid schemes, which cover medical expenses during treatment, health insurance compensates for lost income due to illness or injury.

IPEC director of insurance supervision, Sibongile Siwela, noted that the low uptake is partly due to the need for regular premium payments, especially challenging for those with low and irregular incomes.
