THE allocation of residential stands in Harare is “chaotic,” with over 250 000 home seekers on the waiting list being overlooked while the council allocates stands to land barons.
This emerged yesterday as the Harare City Council (HCC) housing, education, health and licensing chairperson Blessing Muroiwa was giving oral evidence before the Justice Maphios Cheda-chaired five-member commission that is looking into the operations of the local authority.
After evidence lead, Thabani Mpofu had said the HCC housing waiting list was now “irrelevant” as law-abiding citizens were being prejudiced in favour of land barons and illegal settlers, Muroiwa responded.
