US$250m required for rainy season disasters

THE Civil Protection Department (CPD) says it will require at least US$250 million for disaster management for the 2024 /2025 rainy season.

This comes as the first rains in the country have already been characterised by violent storms that have since destroyed hundreds of schools and homes nationwide.

The chief director of the Department of Civil Protection Nathan Nkomo yesterday said schools were at high risk of disasters. “CPD requires at least US$250 million to quickly respond and recover from some of the effects of the current rainfalls…”
