ZIMBABWE’s bid to ensure food security got a boost yesterday after the United Arab Emirates donated 700 metric tonnes of maize in response to the country’s appeal for help to mitigate the effects of drought.
This comes as the country is still grappling with the effects of the El Nino induced drought which started in 2023/24 summer season, resulting in massive crop failure and depletion of water resources and pastures prompting President Emmerson Mnan gagwa to declare a state of national disaster.
