CABINET on Tuesday agreed to amend the Broadcasting Services Act to compel all motorists to have radio licences for their vehicles.
A vehicle owner would also be required to have a radio licence before disposing or on buying a vehicle. Without the radio licence, the vehicle owner would not be able to purchase an insurance cover or policy.
Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare on Tuesday, Information minister Jenfan Muswere said the move was meant to broaden the revenue base of the national broadcaster, ZBC. “As the nation may recall, the first set of principles for the amendment of the Broadcasting Services Act were approved by the Cabinet in 2019.
The proposed additional principles are, therefore, meant to address shortcomings which were identified in the document, which is motor vehicle insurance cover or policy to a person without a current radio licence or an exemption from ZBC.
