‘Expensive’ energy dampens winter wheat prospects

AS THE winter wheat season begins, private contractors have highlighted a significant electricity price discrepancy between the government’s agricultural rate and a higher charge from the Zimbabwe Electricity Distribution and Transmission Company (ZETDC).

The government set the electricity price for agricultural use at 9 US cents per kilowatt-hour. However, the ZETDC is charging 12 US cents per kilowatt-hour, a notable inconsistency between the two rates.
