GOVERNMENT says they have put all mechanisms in place to ensure winter wheat farmers are not affected by power outages by ring-fencing at least 500 megawatts.
The minister of Energy and Power Development, July Moyo, told a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare yesterday that they were taking advantage of improved water levels at Kariba Dam.
“Going forward, we think that our main target is to make sure that agriculture, especially when we have winter ploughing, we add at least 500 to 600 megawatts of irrigation power if the figures that we have been given by the minister of Agriculture are fruitful and come to fruition,” Moyo said.
