THE government is optimistic that the country will increase its milk production to 220 million litres this year, up from 115 million litres last season.

The ministry of Agriculture permanent secretary, Obert Jiri, yesterday said: “We are hoping to go north after managing 115 million litres last year.

“In 2025, we aim to get 220 million litres for the country. This will provide sufficient raw milk for local consumption.

However, we still need more milk for processing powders, which require raw milk.” Jiri noted that the country required about 120 million litres of raw milk annually, increasing to 150 million litres when including processed milk.
