THE Ministry of Agriculture has announced a set of comprehensive strategies to mitigate the rising threat of fall armyworm infestations on Zimbabwe’s cereal crops for the upcoming 2024/25 farming season.

The fall armyworm, which first emerged in the country in 2016, has caused significant crop losses in maize, sorghum, and millet, jeopardising food and nutrition security across the nation.

According to research by the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International, the southern African nation reportedly incurs economic losses of up to $200 million a year due to the spread of the fall armyworm.
