PARLIAMENT has called for a homegrown social environmental policy to promote sustainable mining in the country, aiming to protect the environment.
Zimbabwe has been struggling to end open-cast mining, gold panning, and other unsafe mining activities causing land degradation that affects the entire ecosystem.
Speaking on the sidelines of an environmental social governance meeting with other mining stakeholders in Harare last Friday, Mines and Mineral Development portfolio committee chairperson Remigious Matangira said they had deliberated on local measures to end unsustainable mining activities.
