SEED producer SeedCo Limited registered a 15 percent growth in seed sales during the first quarter (Q1) to June 30,2024 which it attributed to strong local winter maize sales.
Winter maize seed was on demand as farmers sought to boost the staple crop under irrigation following the disastrous previous summer cropping season.
The group endured a difficult year ended March 31, 2024 on the back of the El Nino-induced drought which saw its flagship crop, the maize seed sales volumes retreat by nearly a third of what was realised prior year.
