THE government is aiming for a significant increase in cereal production for the upcoming 2024/25 summer season, with targets set to quadruple output from the previous drought-ravaged season.
The 2023/24 summer season was severely impacted by an El Niño-induced drought, resulting in a cereal harvest of approximately 750,000 metric tonnes.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, statistically, the season had the driest start to a summer season in 40 years.
