THE Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) has pegged the monthly food basket for a family of six at ZiG2 550.

Speaking in Harare yesterday, Zimstat’s acting director general Aluwisio Mukavhi said this month statistics were calculated using the new currency – the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), which was launched by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe on April 5.

“The food poverty line (FPL) for one person in April 2024 was ZiG424.95. The total consumption poverty line (TCPL) for one person in April 2024 was ZiG650.26.”

“Food poverty line represents the amount of money that an individual requires to afford a daily

minimum energy intake of 2.100 calories,” he said.
