GOVERNMENT has ordered Harare City Council to stop, with immediate effect, the ongoing demolition of illegally constructed houses in the capital.
This comes as the council last week destroyed illegally constructed houses in Belvedere, adjacent to the National Heroes Acre, and some shops at Mbare Musika.
Addressing the media during an inspection of a Pinnacle Holdings Nyore Nyore housing project in Harare South yesterday, Local Government minister Daniel Garwe said the city council housing demolitions were not the central government’s position.
