ALTHOUGH the government prefers to engage, rather than fight with business, it will soon take serious action against those firms that are sabotaging the ZiG and unjustifiably hiking the prices of their goods. So says the permanent secretary of the ministry of Finance, George Guvamatanga, who adds that some businesses appear hellbent on pushing authorities to take drastic steps against them.
This comes as consumers are reeling from the recent surge in the prices of goods in the country, while a few retailers have also been demanding payment for their products in US dollars only thereby undermining the ZiG.
