PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says the lack of foreign funding in the country is derailing major infrastructural development, and the government is struggling to provide social protection to citizens.
Addressing a high-level debt resolution forum in Harare yesterday, Mnangagwa said the only solution to promote development in the country is to ensure that Zimbabwe clears its internal and external debts.
This comes as Zimbabwe’s total consolidated debt stands at US$17.5 billion, while debt owed to international creditors is US$14.04 billion and domestic debt is US$3.4 billion.
“Public enterprise reforms, which are part of our national development and modernisation agenda, remain a priority. My government stands committed to consolidating constitutionalism, the rule of law, good governance, and protecting enshrined rights and our freedoms,” he said
