Miners give up on national grid

ZIMBABWE’s major mining companies are taking significant steps to set up their own power generation plants to reduce pressure and reliance on the unreliable national grid.

These investments are particularly focused on renewable energy, mainly solar power, as the mining sector moves towards more sustainable practices.

Zimbabwe expects its power demand to reach 3 200 megawatts (MW) next year, with the mining sector using around 2 600MW due to increased operations.
