PARLIAMENT has ordered an investigation into whether or not the tariffs being charged by Zesa are in line with the country’s Exchange Control Act.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MP for Mutare Central Brain James raised suspicion that the power utility was taking advantage of the transition from the old Zimbabwe dollar currency to the newly introduced Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) to shortchange customers.

On his part, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said Energy minister Edgar Moyo should look into the matter. “Chief Whip, can you make sure that the message is transmitted to the ministry of Energy so that they can investigate the issue,” he said.
