THE Rural Electrification Agency (REA) says it is looking for US$14 million to fund the construction of 25 community solar mini-grids to ease the power situation across the country.
This comes as the government, through REF, has prioritised the development of green mini-grids powered by locally available resources to spur economic growth and improve living standards in rural areas.
It also comes as long-term viability of publicly funded mini-grids is being hindered by low and unpredictable demand, along with insufficient financing mechanisms for operation, maintenance, and necessary replacement investments.
