World Bank country representative Victor Steenbergen has challenged authorities to reduce high tariffs on imports from Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to improve Zimbabwe’s economic and trade growth.
The African Union (AU) adopted the AfCFTA as a measure to promote trade in African countries.
Speaking in Harare at a Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) manufacturing sector event, Steenbergen said the government needed to implement the necessary policy reforms in order to benefit from AfCFTA.
“There is a need for constant push for reforms by the government by eliminating tariffs on imports from AfCFTA partner countries, and the need to implement necessary policy reforms, implement simplified trade regime for small-scale traders…” he said
