THE government is vetting three candidates who were shortlisted for the post of Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) chief executive officer.

This comes as the TIMB has appealed to Parliament to intervene and end external interference in the running of the organisation.

TIMB is the regulatory and advisory statutory board whose functions include controlling and regulating the growing, marketing and exporting of tobacco.

Giving oral evidence before the parliamentary portfolio committee on Agriculture in Parliament on Tuesday, the permanent secretary in the ministry of Agriculture, Obert Jiri, conformed that the vetting process for the three unnamed candidates was underway.
