Government promises to buttress zig

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has assured increasingly anxious Zimbabweans that the government remains committed to improving their lives through the application of sound economic policies.

Delivering his State of the Nation address (SONA) in Parliament yesterday, Mnangagwa added that authorities would step up their efforts to shore up the under-pressure ZiG and to stabilise the prices of basic goods in the country.

This comes as the local currency has of late been under the cosh on the parallel market, triggering a new wave of price hikes of basic goods — while some products have also since disappeared from shop shelves.
